Spiced Ceremonial Brew
Inspired by ancient Mesoamerican cacao traditions this recipe is deep, grounding, and slightly fiery.
Ingredients:
• 35–42g ceremonial cacao
• 120–200ml water, around 70°C
• 1 small pinch of cayenne or chili
• 1/4 tsp cinnamon
• A tiny pinch of sea salt
• Optional: a small pinch of vanilla powder
• Optional: 1/4 tsp cardamom
• Optional: a little honey or maple syrup, if you want to soften the bitterness
Method:
- Heat the water to around 70°C.
- Mix cacao, water, chili, cinnamon, salt and blend until the drink becomes smooth, rich, and slightly frothy.
- Taste and adjust. Add a little sweetener if you want a softer cup, or a touch more chili if you want more heat.
- Pour into a cup and drink slowly, with presence.
A small ritual:
Before drinking, hold the cup close to your heart for a moment. Take a deep breath and notice the aroma of the cacao and spices. Set an intention for your ceremony, perhaps something you want to invite in, release, or strengthen within yourself. Take the first sip slowly and let the warmth of the cacao and spices guide you deeper into your body.
